Remembering 2010 and looking forward to 2011

It has been almost a year now occupying the new building and we are still amazed at how much ministry has come from using the new place.

We finished our DTS last summer with outreach throughout Romania

Seminar for church leadership

African culture presentation in all the high schools in the city

Outreach teams came and served the city

The worship team grew and ministered in the Nation at many events

A new coffeehouse was built

New ministries started through the staff to the poor, orphans and weekly Evangelism

Our School of Worship was amazing with 6 international students

We planted a Call 2 Worship seminar in Cluj

Had our first song writing retreat with 30 new worship songs

Christmas parties for three different orphanages

And now an outreach team from London for the month.

The list can go on....

The building is giving the staff and their ministries a solid place to grow from and we are all blessed by this growth. The building is providing needed space for offices, meeting rooms and classrooms help to make a stable mission's base in the city.

Looking forward one year from now we will need to make the final payment for the building. We are seeking God for our next steps in finding financial partners. Please join us in prayer as we reach out to business people, churches, pastors, YWAM Bases, friends and family members to join the mission in this city through financial support.

"Sitting in the new building having a meeting with one of the staff I find myself just amazed with the changes God has brought to the YWAM Base. God really opened a wonderful door for us by having us "occupy the building" while we are still fund raising. We thought it would be a long time before we could use the building and here we are having meetings and starting new ministries this month! It has been a lot of work to get in, painting, moving, setting-up rooms, fixing showers, feeding many and building furniture, but God has provided many helping hands for the move. Thank you to everyone who has helped and partnered with us, we are truly blessed."

God is good! After a year of prayer, months of negotiations, and weeks of hard work, we are established in our new base! We have been hard at work making this house our home over the past few weeks. We have repainted almost the entire interior of the house and most of our staff has moved into the house. We are incredibly blessed by many of our friends who have come to help us with this transition.

As we move into this new exciting chapter of YWAM Targu Mures' history, please continue to pray for us as we venture into this uncharted territory in our history. We are excited to see what God is going to do to show His glory through this amazing blessing. We now have 2 years to raise the remaining amount to fully purchase the house as we are currently in a rent-to-own contract. Thank you all for you prayers and support.

Contract signed!!!

Thursday, February 11th we finally signed the contract for the new building.

It was a little over a year ago when we started praying about whether to pursue this building or not. Then when we understood as a team that this is God's will, we were determined to follow through with everything He directed us to do. This brought us to this point, on Thursday, when we signed a two years "rent-to-own" contract. This means we have two years to raise the finances needed; in the meantime we can live in the building, thus making it easier for staff, students, teachers and the visiting people and outreach teams.

Our next students are coming in just a few days for our upcoming Arts-Discipleship Training School. We will have 12 or more teachers coming through for this school, 5 new staff who will join us within the next few months and at least two outreach teams during the summer. This provision came in good time and we are all the more thankful to our Jehovah Jireh.

Over the week-end the Global Care board agreed on our latest proposal to move into the building with a 2 years rent-to-own contract. This means that at the end of the two years we will have all the finances for the purchase and we will become owners. We are so excited at this opportunity and God's provision! We feel we are occupying the land, putting a stake in the ground, thus stating: "We are here to stay". We believe that the opposition and spiritual warfare we have been experiencing over this move is a witness to that.

We will continue to fund-raise and seek for partners for this amazing ministry God has entrusted us with, here in Targu Mures, Romania. Thank you all who've been praying, donating, raising awareness. Please continue to do so and pray also for a smooth transition into the new building.

Prayer update

After finishing our week of prayer, God started to open new doors for the building.

One is a possibility to move into the building on a rent-to-own contract and we are in negotiations with the organization GlobalCare which owns the building. This Saturday would you please keep us in prayer, as the board of GlobalCare will decide whether the contract will work.

Please also keep us in prayer, next month, as we approach Christian businessmen in Romania to partner with us to buy the building.

We have received many 'words' from everyone around the world and we see God saying the same thing, "the building is coming and we should continue believing" so please pray that God will make our next steps clear.

Praying for the New Year

As we have entered a new year we want to keep a tradition we started two years ago and that is to postpone all ministry for a week and pray and seek God for our future plans - the NEW BASE included. That doesn't mean we don't plan ahead we just want to submit everything to the Lord in prayer, worship and fasting and allow Him to be Sovereign. Join us in prayer this week and share what you hear God say concerning the ministry here in Targu Mures, Romania!

2010 is the year of Jubilee for many reasons for us. YWAM is celebrating 50 years of existence and we are on the brink of Revival globally, as God promised so long time ago. So we want to pray in this context and ask God: "What is OUR role? How shall WE get ready?"

PS Over the holidays we received an extra 8000 Euros towards the building. Thank you Lord!!!

Just a short update: we haven't given up on the building. We are negotiating a "rent to buy" contract with the possibility of moving in as renters and continue to fundraise for the building. We need your prayers now more than ever: the current owners are very encouraging and generous but we need to find the best solution, which would benefit both parties. In the end both organizations are about the Kingdom of God! Thank you for supporting our cause!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

In spite of all the renting proprieties that YWAM Tg Mures has had in the last couple of years, its ministries have gowned a lot through their schools and community projects. Thus they got to a point where acquiring a new building base is very critical in continuing building the Kingdom of God in Romania. TM has not only got many opportunities to serve, but its potential to reach Romania for Christ from this city is even greater because of the perfect location and vision. A new building for the base would provide the means to continue grow their schools and reach out to the city. As a member of YWAM TM board I am very privileged to be part of it's journey in serving the Lord in Romania.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 ESV

Anyone who has spent any time seeking to further the Kingdom of God knows we are in a war, a battle against an unseen enemy who seeks to stop our efforts at any cost. If we fail to acknowledge that we are in fact “at war”, we’ve already lost the first battle.
Throughout history, leaders seeking to take new ground in their military campaigns have been successful, in part, because they set up a strategic base either in enemy territory or at least as close to the enemy lines as possible. Many times great sacrifices are made to set up the base, knowing that whatever was given up, however valuable, is key to winning the battle.
Bases are chosen for their position, not only against the enemy lines, but in connection with its allies as well. The base will serve as a headquarters, a jumping point for future missions, for training, supplying, and equipping those who serve on the front lines, who battle daily against the enemy. Furthermore, the base also becomes a centralized point for the delivery of supplies and resources. For it to stand and succeed it needs to have consistent supply line.
Establishing a permanent base in Targu Mures is key to winning the battle for the souls of the people of the city and the surrounding areas. And the fact that you’re reading this is evidence of your interest in being part of the team that will make this happen. Whether your support is financial through fiscal donations needed now and in the future to establish and maintain this stronghold or spiritual through intercessory prayer on behalf of the team and the future of the base in Targu Mures (or both), you are part of that team, that army of God. Perhaps, through all of this, God is calling you to join the front lines as well. Regardless, the sacrifices made here will not be forgotten in the Kingdom of God as “we” seek to set up this new outpost against the enemy, an enemy who already has a stronghold in Targu Mures, in Romania, in Europe, in the world! It’s time that we take seriously our responsibility to equip those on the front lines and provide them with the resources they need to enter into battle. We are the Lord’s Army!

The Latest Update

Over the past weeks we have been blessed by numerous prayer and financial partners joining with us in our vision. Believers from around the world have been standing with us and expressing that God is saying for us to press forward. As a base, we believe God is going to give us this building. People have also joined our fund raising efforts in Norway with great success. Please pray that God blesses them and their efforts and ministries. It is a very exciting time for our ministry in Targu Mures and all of Romania.

Please continue to stand with us in prayer and faith as we watch this promise come to pass. We are believing to be in the building by the end of December. An outreach team is joining us in January and February is seeing the beginning of our fourth Discipleship Training School with students from around the world. Our facilities are rapidly becoming inadequate and we need to expand as our ministry grows. .

Project 600 Update

“Project 600”

600 Individuals, businesses, churches, and YWAM bases joining the vision to firmly plant YWAM Targu Mures permanently in our city. It has been 1 month since this project began during an afternoon staff meeting. Since the birthing of this project, we have had 18 financial partners and over 70 prayer partners join with us to make this dream a reality. Every day has been bringing new support from all around the world and we are coming closer to our goal. Certain individuals have even taken it upon themselves to help us fund raise for the building in different parts of Europe and America. In the big picture, we have a network that not only stretches across Europe, but across the world, people groups, and denominations. Our current amount of total funds, including pledges, is 28,300 Euros. There are others that have given their commitments and are taking an offering for our vision at their YWAM bases or churches. We have received multiple confirmations through our prayer partners that say to keep pushing and praying and we are firmly standing in prayer that God is our provider. We have recently started scheduling for our next DTS, which starts on February 15^th, 2010, and firmly believe that God can work to give us this building by that time. The world would say that we are in a financial crisis, that fund raising for this amount of money is impossible, but God’s economy is strong and He is in control. Please continue to stand with us as we take this journey of getting closer to God and seeing Him work through us to bless our city and the country of Romania.

"Unless the Lord builds a house..."

Yesterday, we as a team took the day and offered to go and help one of our friends and staff build his house. We had such a good time working shoulder to shoulder, singing, sweating together and preferring one another. I was reminded of Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." This is of course relevant for our team right now because of "Project 600"

I was reminded that God is in the business of building the Kingdom. Since this Psalm was crafted by Solomon (who indeed built a House) the verse doesn't make reference to us not needing to do the work. What I believe it says is that we, as believers need to be totally dependent on God in all our pursuits. There are many ways to do things, many good ways actually but unless we do God's will - in God's ways - I believe we are fooling ourselves. This is where it becomes tricky. We ca be so easily deceived into getting busy "doing God's work", laboring so hard for the Kingdom, all with good intentions and motivation that we can forget about the Builder himself.

About the "House of Hope"

This house has been "home" for many orphans in Targu Mures since 1992 thanks to Global Care out of England. Now the kids are older and GC wants to sell the house and buy apartments to place the kids thus help them become independent. Buying this house will not only benefit Youth With A Mission, but these orphans as well, since GC will use the money for the apartments.

The house is large enough to house all our staff, students (Discipleship Training School, School of Worship, Call2Worship, House of Prayer seminars' students), teachers, missionaries who are traveling through Targu Mures or just looking for a retreat place and short term missions trips. It also has room for conferences, Coffee House ministry, House of Prayer ministry and just for young people to hang out and/or "do life together".

The house is also in very good shape and won't need any urgent improvements. We can just move in.

The town was first documented as ‘Novum Forum Sicolorum' (The New Market of the Seklars) in 1322. Beginning with the 16th century, Targu Mures excels as an important cultural and education centre. The first school appears in 1492. In 1786, the first printing shop is established and in 1802 count Teleki Samuel, chancellor of Transylvania, lays the foundations of the documentary library that bears his name to this day. The city received a major boost to its social and economic life in 1754 when it became the seat of the supreme court of justice of the Principality of Transylvania.

During medieval times, guilds, made up of groups of craftsmen, played an important role in the evolution of the town. Artisan guilds had their privileges recognized since 1493. In 1620, members of the guilds took part in the building of the town fortress. Two of the most important guilds were the shoemakers and tanners ones. In 1800, the shoemakers’ guild had the most members, namely 254. The guild system lasted until 1872.

Targu Mures became a modern town in the second half of the 19th century, along with the expansion of the railway line. Today its centrally located Piata Trandafirilor (Roses Square) is lined with modern streetside cafes and restaurants, churches, and monuments. Targu Mures' top attraction is located at the south end of the square: the Culture Palace (Palatul Culturii), a flamboyant early 20th-century city hall with an outstanding stained-glass hall, housing some of main local museums.

Thank you for standing with us in the pursuit of what we believe is God's inheritance for us here at YWAM Targu Mures! This is how it all started:

It was around Christmas time last year! Our team went to visit some orphans at a Christian run home and as I entered the building I was surprised by the peace that flooded me and I found myself thinking "This could make a beautiful base for YWAM Targu Mures". I must have said that out loud because I heard someone say: "It's for sale you know". I knew there and then that a new journey will start.

We spent the first week of 2009 praying, fasting and strategizing for the new year. During that time many of us believed God is telling us to pursue the building. Then followed more prayer and fasting for confirmation and divine appointments, a series of negotiations meetings and eventually on June 17th 2009 we settled with the owners for the price of 285 000 Euros (about 300 000 w/ taxes).

Next we had to strategize for the Fund Raising as we had a few deadlines to meet. We began in the United States and in the two months spent there we were able to raise some but not even enough to meet our first deadline. When we returned to Romania we gathered the team together to seek God and see if we are to let the building go. In prayer we decided to keep on going.

So far we have been encouraged by the feedback but we still have a ways to go.
